When spanish historian Lourders Diaz-Trechuelo passed away in2008, she left decades' worthof historiographical work on spanish colonial philippines. Perhaps more importantly, her legacy had taken root among two generations of Spanish and Filipino historians whom she had trained and mentored. Some of them have contributed to this book which gathers papers presented at the conference held in her honor in March 2009 at the University of Asia and the Pacific. Those who knew her closely write about her as a person as well as about her scholarship amd the spirit of service the marked it. The first chapters focus on the areas in which she carried our extensive research, namely, colonial architecture and economic history, while the others explore aspects of the colonial project and its fruition in philippine society and culture. The range of sources, approaches and methodologies used by the authors presents directions in which historiography on spanish colonial Philippines has developed: a fitting tribute to the pioneering work of Lourdes Diaz-Trechuelo.
